What can I expect for the first appointment?

If you have not signed the consents before session, please arrive 15 minutes before the start of session to fill out the paperwork. If you have already filled these out, I will meet you in the lobby at the start of session, and we will begin talking in my office. I will review the consents, confidentially, and discuss with you what to expect from counseling. We will spend the first few sessions getting to know each other while I am identifying what has brought you into the therapy and what you would like to resolve. We will also set your goals for our time together. Keep in mind that my job is to collaborate with you on what your goals for treatment are, and will encourage you to play an important role in this process. I will be an encourager, an advocate, and a truth teller since we all need that from time to time 🙂 Although in our culture we are always longing for a QUICK FIX, I urge you to be patient and open to the process. I am excited to find and celebrate big and small steps of progress with you.

Do you take insurance?

I am currently out of network for all providers. I am able to provide a super-bill to submit to you insurance for possible reimbursement of some of all of my fees. Please talk with your insurance about prior to your first session in order to clarify possible reimbursement rates. My hourly fee per one 60 minute session is $130. I save a few spots for sliding scale fee clients depending on their income. Please inquire if you are interested.

Does seeing a therapist mean I just can’t handle my own stuff?

We have a culture in America that tells us we must always have it together, so we do not appear weak and not whole. I do not believe this, and strive to bring freedom to my clients by showing them vulnerability and honesty are two of the most powerful values that bring about life change. It is truly one of my favorite accomplishments to help others find relief and support in therapy. Therapy is a great investment into yourself, your relationships, and your goals for the future. I am committed to each client’s success in making changes to their unique situation. I hope to be the small step in your story as we take this journey together.
